Former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa escaped death early Sunday, 25 July, 2021 when hoodlums suspected to be supporters of one of the councillorship candidates in his ward in Saturday, 24 July, 2021, attacked his residence at Oyewole Road, Mukero bus stop, Agege.
The Gazelle News.com learnt that the former Commissioner has been in the forefront of campaign against anti-party activities of some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his Ward D of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area.
The APC candidate for the Ward was Wahab Adeoye. However, it was learnt that some party leaders in the ward are not favourably disposed towards Adeoye and they shifted their support to the candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Afolabi Omotunde, a clear case of anti-party.
On Saturday, there were reported cases of some APC leaders openly campaigning for the YPP candidate.
Opeifa and his team monitored and mounted spirited efforts to prevent rigging hence he became a target, according to some of his boys.
“On Saturday evening, the hoodlums supporting the YPP candidate took the people of Oyewole hostage, attacking people at will. They gathered in front of my house and converged there. They later left,” Opeifa told The Gazelle News.com.
The former Commissioner later left the Mulero residence for another house, a kind of premonitic act as the hoodlums Reportedly came back around 3am and attacked the residence.
They allegedly attacked the residence, firing gunshots and throwing stones and other dangerous weapons at the house.
“I was the main target but I thank God I was not at home,” he said.
