Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, two-term lawmaker who represented Lagos West and Lagos Central Senatorial Districts in Senate between 1999 and 2007, has joined the league of lawyers in the country as he was called to Bar today, Wednesday, 28 July, 2021.
Afikuyomi was among th second set of 2021 Law graduates to be called to the Nigerian Bar.
Afikuyomi, who will be 60 in December, with this feat, has joined the league of few Nigerians to have featured in the three arms of government in the country’s political space.
The former lawmaker, graduate of Sociology from the University of Lagos, was exiled during the Abacha years, in the aftermath of the June 12 election annulment but later returned to represent Lagos twice in the Senate.
Between 1999 and 2003, he represented Lagos Central Senatorial District and was the representative of the Lagos West Senatorial District between 2003 and 2007 in the Senate all on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
After an unsuccessful bid to become the governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria in the 2007 election, Afikuyomi became the state Commissioner for Tourism in Lagos State during the first term of the Babatunde Raji Fashola administration between 2007 and 2011.
He had since devoted his energy to private business and party assignments.
An elated Afikuyomi is planning a small reception at 5pm after the Eagle Square induction into the Bar.
The Call to Bar Reception will take place at Charterhouse, 33, Lake Chad Crescent, off Ibrahim Babangida Boulevard, Maitama, Abuja.
