A mother of three has been accused of buying a six year old boy for N50,000 and sold him for N200,000, reports The Gazelle News.com.
Gertrude Akpan, 47, was accused of buying the six-year-old boy for N50,000 in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State and took him to Owerri, Imo State capital where she sold him to one Kate Ogbonna for N200,000.
The Gazelle News.com learnt that Gertrude Akpan, a retired matron who worked at the Immanuel Hospital, Eket bought the boy from Ubong Ekwerre who had earlier abducted the boy from his grandmother.
The retired matron was subsequently arrested and arraigned before the Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo.
The case was brought before Justice Okon Okon. After considering the confession of the accused, the evidence of the prosecution witness and other presentations, the judge was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offence.
The judge subsequently sentenced the retired Matron to 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
