In what could be described as a determined effort by the Lagos state police to further decimate all forms of criminalities in the state, men of the Lagos state Rapid Response Squad (RRS) unit of the state police command have arrested a notorious traffic robber, Lekan Ayeni, reports The Gazelle News.com.
Ayeni is notoriously described as ‘King of Traffic Robbery’. He was arrested on Saturday, 30 October, 2021 the RRS team in Oshodi while attempting to rob a motorist. Ayeni is one of the robbery quartet terrorising Oshodi and Mushin environs. Other members of his gang are: Elewure, Wande Coal and Small Jesus.
Apa was arrested by the RRS armoured personnel carrier (APC), team charged with the responsibility of swift response to security challenges in and around Oshodi metropolis after a distress call of thief thief by a motorist he had attempted to rob very early in the day.
The alarm raised by the motorist made the suspect took to his heel and a courageous commuter who ran after and grabbed him, unfortunately suffered a close range gun shot to his arm and thigh by Apa, for daring to hinder his escape which led to his arrest by the RRS personnel who were also in his hot pursuit in response to the initial shouts of ‘thief’ ‘thief’ by the suspect’s target.
On interrogation, Apa, an ex-convict, confessed to belong to the notorious group marshalled by one Elewure, who he confirmed has been killed months ago; the unlucky gunshot victim, namely Kasim Adeoye, is however, fast recovering at an undisclosed hospital.
Exhibits recovered from the suspect include a locally made pistol with one expended and one unexpended live cartridges.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been transferred to the CP Special Squad for discreet investigation, in line with the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu
