The national officers of the Nigeria Majority Leaders’ Forum were elected and inaugurated on Saturday, 4 December, 2021 at the National Convention of the Legislative Forum in Lagos.
Speaking to newsmen on Saturday after the inauguration, the new National Publicity Secretary of the body, Hon Olugboyega Aribisogan said that Hon Sanai Oyeniran Agunbiade, Majority Leader of Lagos State House of Assembly was elected as the National Chairman of the Forum while the Majority Leader of Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon Gapyil Naanlong was elected the National Secretary of the Forum.
Other elected members of the National Executives of the Forum are: Hon Nnamdi Godwin Okafor, Anambra, National Vice-Chairman, South; Hon Abubakar Suleiman Abukur, Katsina, National Vice- Chairman, North; Hon Olugboyega Aribisogan, Ekiti, National Publicity Secretary; and Hon Hamman Tukur Yettisuri, Adamawa, National Deputy Publicity Secretary.
Also elected are: Hon Solomon Akpulonu, Abia, National Legal Adviser; Hon Bukar Mustapha, Yobe, National Financial Secretary; Hon Faruk Aliyu Jega, Kebbi, National Treasurer; Hon Peter Odey, CrossRivers, National Organising Secretary; and Hon Monday Bubou Obolo, Bayelsa, National Deputy Secretary.
Aribisogan disclosed that the election was rancour free and followed due process. “We have a very peaceful election that followed due process,” he said.
He further said that the Convention brought together all the 36 Majority Leaders of the state Houses of Assembly to discuss national issues of Legislative importance.
The National Vice Chairman, Nigeria Conference of Speakers, Rt Hon Olakunle Oluomo, while addressing the gathering, urged members to remain united and committed to the deepening of Nigeria democratic process.
“As Majority Leaders, you must be united and committed to the deepening of our democracy. We owe our country the duty to sustain our democracy. We must be conscious of our stabilizing roles as leaders of government business in our various Assemblies.
I urge you to continue to support the leadership of your state and work for the progress of your members,” the Ogun State Speaker said.
While delivering his acceptance speech after the election, the new National Chairman, Hon SOB Agunbiade thanked all members for deeming him fit and proper for the exalted office and pledged that the new Executive will lead.
The Forum to the next level of progress and development. “I pledge to be a team leader. We will not disappoint you.
We shall collectively work to make the Nigeria Legislature a model for other Afican countries to emulate,” Agunbiade said.
