Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have protested against the discriminatory distribution of supervisory offices for the council by the council Chairman, David Olusegun Odunmbaku.
The members, in their thousands, on Friday, 22 April, 2022 took their protest to the state party secretariat at Acme Road in Ikeja as well as the state House of Assembly.
They dropped a letter of protest at the state party secretariat proceeding to the state House of Assembly at Alausa to register their protest.
At the Assembly, they were addressed by Honourable Moshood Olanrewaju Osun, Chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Sports Development, who spoke on behalf of the Speaker, Rt Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Barrister Wale Ajala, decried the overbearing attitude of the Council Chairman.
According to Ajala, as a result of the crisis that characterised the last local government election in the council, a reconciliation arrangement overseen and signed by the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it was agreed that political offices, both elective and appointed should be shared equally between the two major blocs in the council: the James Abiodun Faleke bloc and the Cardinal Omolaja Odunmbaku bloc.
Ajala stated further that after the election, the Chairman’s attempt to cede the most important political offices to the Odunmbaku bloc was thwarted by the state Assembly which acting on a petition by the Faleke group decided that offices must be shared equally.
“The Chairman is at it again. When the list of the Supervisors and Special Advisers for the council was released, the Chairman ceeded all the major portfolios to the Odunmbaku leaving only SSAs for the Faleke group contrary to the existing arrangement.
“You’ve done it for us before and we are here again with our petition to urge you to act and correct this anomaly,” Ajala said.
Responding, Honourable Osun assured the protesters that the House Investigate all the allegations and act without fear or favour.
“I’m happy you confirmed that we’ve waded into previous issue in the council and settle it amicably, we will not renege on this. We will investigate and act on this without fear or favour,” he said.
