A Kogi State based educationist and frontline liberty advocate, Dr. Duro Oniemola, has called on political players in the state to embrace a representative who possess the ability in the march towards the 2023 dateline.
Oniemola made the call, in a speech delivered at Ijumu PDP’s Youth Political Enlightenment
meeting held recently at Otun Hall, Iyara-Ijumu.
According to the political scientist, five socio-material values are basically important to political choice-making; the five according to him are: faith, knowledge, character, means or money and networking or relationship.
Restraining himself from blowing up the importance of political faith to the level of a religious “belief”, Oniemola posited that, “God” is infinitesimal; after Him is political power that mobilises and control other physical
structures and substances, including the human beings, so as to achieve the divine will of the Almighty God”.
“So let us have the deepest faith in our belief that the political party (PDP) is a structure through which God intends to deliver development and justice across the population categories”.
Oniemola therefore, reasoned that, the young people’s category that has been órdained’to carryout this assignment must be seen to be doing so with strong faith in Him and dedication to manifest reality.
According to him, Knowledge is the blood veins of politics (i.e. motivation and ordering
of people’s actions and behaviours).
“I urge you to seek knowledge always about anything that concerns politics. Ignorance is a disease that is capable of destroying any structure; and relying on expired data or whimsical suggestions can ruin a nation,” he said.
“Therefore, when we are priviledged to choose a representative at whichever level of
governance, search for knowledge laden capacities. Doing anything less is an innovation to stagnation, regression and failure,” he added.
The erudite scholar argued that the character of a man or woman shows whom he or she is.
Reflecting on the messages of the slapping incident at an important event in South-East Nigeria seen whole world a few weeks ago, Oniemola counselled delegates to go for people and structures where good manners are seen in demonstration.
