Dr Yunus Abiodun Akintunde, former Commissioner for Works and Transport during the administration of late Senator Abiola Ajimobi in Oyo State, has won the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Oyo Central Senatorial District, reports thegazellenews.com.
He defeated his close challenger, Faozey Oladotun Nurudeen, in a keenly contested primary election which took place on Saturday, 28 May, 2022 with 238 delegate votes to 176 votes.
Three other contestants are: Wakil Oyedemi who scored 43 delegate votes; Bimbo Kolade who had 30 delegate votes and Kazeem Kolawole who had five delegate votes.
Speaking with thegazellenews.com exclusively after the exercise, Dr Akintunde expressed appreciation to party members, elders and leaders who supported his aspiration.
He was particularly grateful for delegates who voted for him while congratulating his opponents for a very good contest.
“This is indeed a huge call to service and I want to assure our members, leaders and the people of Oyo Central Senatorial District and Oyo State in general that, I’ll not disappoint this privilege.
“Our main goal is to give this Senatorial District a robust representation based on pursuing people-oriented programmes and projects for the people. With your support and votes, we will get to the Red Chamber and we will not disappoint,” Dr Akintunde assured.
