This year’s tree planting day was premised on the need to restore and reinstall our relationship with nature which would further ensure the sustenance of life, hence the theme ‘In Harmony with Nature’.
In his remark that was made on behalf of the Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the Chairman, Ojodu LCDA, Hon. David Olusegun Odunmbaku expressed that tree planting is a worthy step to stem the tide of environmental degradation and inordinate exploitation of earth’s resources.
“As the exercise was initiated by the Ministry of Environment to compliment the landscape as well as respond to effects of the adverse weather conditions, and also mitigate the negative effects of climate change, it behooves us all to ensure these trees are well nurtured in order to really make this exercise worthwhile. Therefore, I enjoin you to make tree-planting a habit because it helps in preserving the present for the benefits of posterity,” Odunmbaku said.
The annual event which takes place simultaneously on Thursday,14 July, 2022 in all the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) of the State has been strictly observed since year 2008.
The Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Bunmi Oluyadi gave his contribution with a subtle reminder that humans need plants to survive and that all should quickened to the responsibility of ensuring the reinstatement of our relationship with nature through tree planting which would further ensure the suspended of life.
The Oba of Aguda, HRM Oba Akeem Agbaosi Eweobaja eulogized Odunmbaku for his consistency at ensuring the upliftment of Ojodu LCDA since inception, through various conspicuous initiatives and interventions.
While delivering the goodwill message, representative of Lagos State Parks and Gardens (LASPARK), Mrs Ope Olaleye, also emphasized the vital roles of trees to human life. In a bid to further encourage the planting of trees, Olaleye announced the availability of free tree seedlings in their offices across the State.
Likewise, she hinted of a ‘Nature-Related’ Art competition that was organized for children between ages of three to 16 is ongoing with amazing prices to be won in a bid to further propagate the tree-planting ideology.
In the same vein, the Council Mayor assured the constituents of the commitments of his administration to the preservation of the environment through timely drainage desilting to avert flood and loss of valuables.
