The Lagos State Government is set to host the maiden Awori Day Cultural Festival in Lagos, reports thegazellenews.com.
The state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had earlier gave his approval for the state to support the event when members of the Awori Welfare Association of Nigeria (AWAN) led by its Chairman and former Commissioner for Finance in the state, Alhaji Muhammad Bola Olagbaye; the Central Planning Committee led by its Chairman, Prince Femi Adetunji Fadina met with him in his office.
Governor Sanwo-Olu subsequently directed the state Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to take over the preparation for the event.
The state Commissioner for Tourism, Art and Culture, Pharmacist Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf hosted members of the Central Planning Committee for the event in her office at the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.
It would be recalled that on Sunday, 14 August, 2022, Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu hosted a powerful delegation of prominent elders, elites and traditional rulers of Awori tribe, under the Advisory Council of Awori Day Cultural Festival, where His Excellency promised the readiness and willingness of the State Government under his administration to champion this historical course of Awori unity.
The Awori Day Cultural Festival has the support of the state government, prominent traditional rulers, elites and prominent Awori indigenes such as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire; another former Deputy Governor of the state, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan; former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Kayode Opeifa; and President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Chief Micheal Olawale-Cole.
