The All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidate for Lagos Central Senatorial District, Rt. Hon. Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni, has stated that there should not be any argument as to who truly developed the New Lagos.
In his opinion, the APC Presidential Candidate and former Governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, undoubtedly, qualifies to be called the icon that developed modern Lagos. “Thus, he is father of New Lagos and he deserves all the praises being showered on him,” the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly said.
Rt Hon Eshilokun-Sanni stated this while presenting his manifesto to, and seeking the votes of the representatives of the barracks in Lagos Central Senatorial District at Whitley Events Centre, Surulere on Wednesday, 18 January, 2023.
The aspiring National Lawmaker gave kudos to the leadership qualities of the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande (Governor, 1979-1983) for his giant development projects in the state. He also acknowledged the positive contributions of former Governors Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and Akinwumi Ambode; and of course, the current Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu for continuing with the developmental plans Asiwaju Bola Tinubu fostered on the State.
However, without doubt, he sees Asiwaju as having given the required foundation; especially, with his ingenuity in developing a proactive Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) profile for the State; noting that this saved Lagos from going insolvent, when the Government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo seized the Local Government allocation due to the state, for daring to create more Local Governments (which today has become L.C.D.A.s). This increasing I.G.R. in the state has turned its economy around for the better which has made developed to become the 5th biggest in the African continent.
Rt Hon Eshilokun-Sanni further disabused the minds of the electorate on the negative propaganda being spread against the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket; noting that, “what we want as citizens is competence”.
He sighted the examples of the administrations of Yakubu Gowon which had Admiral Wey as his deputy. Same with Chief Obafemi Awolowo as Premier of Western region then, who had Akintola as deputy; and Akintola, with Fani Kayode; all Christian-Christian tickets, which never had anything negative impact on governance.
Rt. Hon. Eshilokun urged the representatives of the barracks’ residents to ensure that they obtain their PVCs, as nobody will be allowed to vote without it. He further implored those present to go back and canvass to their family members, friends and neighbors, in the barracks, to vote for him; as well as other APC candidates.
He assured them of good representation, a listening hear to their demands and a dedicated protection of their interest.
At the engagement were APC leaders like Alhaji G.O.K. Sodiq, Hon. Elijah Adele, S.S. Ajao and Mrs Olaniyan (Central Women Leader); among others. WES Campaign Council was also very well represented.
On the side of the representatives of the residents of the barracks in Lagos Central Senatorial District were: Mrs Magdalena Olopa Ifa, Magret Agbotan, Lauretta Ejedawe and Asabe Bala; to mention but a few.
Speaking one after the other, the women leaders extolled the virtues of Senator Remi Tinubu and assured WES, and indeed, all candidates of APC in Lagos of their votes.
