The lawmaker representing Eti-Osa State Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu, has advised parents not to deprive their children of education.
Yishawu spoke at the ongoing 10th Gbolahan Olusegun Yishawu (GOY) Free Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Form Distribution on Friday, 27 January, 2023, in Lagos.
According to him, parents who train their children through school are setting their families on the right pedestal and creating the nation’s needed manpower.
“I advise every parent within the confines of our state to ensure their children go to school.
“It is a disservice to your family, self, child and nation if you do not allow your child to be educated.
“Reports show that 20 million children are out of school: in Lagos, we do not pray that happens; education is free, there is space for every child that needs to be in school,” he said.
He said his priority as a lawmaker in the state House of Assembly was education, which he described as a tool of emancipation and prosperity.
“One of my agenda since day one is education; if you can build the children of today, they can build roads in the sky,” the Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning said.
The lawmaker expressed satisfaction over the success of the programme which is now in its 10th edition.
According to him, many who have benefitted since inception are now graduates and have jobs.
“I am happy because I see people who are already graduates; some of them say they got into school through the programme; people are already graduates and are working.
“Indeed, it is a success story for me and it gladdens my heart to see that we have played a part in getting people to have a tertiary level of education within the state.
“It makes me glad that we can make an impact within our constituency,“ Yishawu said.
The lawmaker made 1000 JAMB forms available for distribution for students in his constituency. The exercise starts on Monday, 23 January and ends on Friday, 10 February, 2023.
