The heavy crowd of All Progressives Congress (APC) members and followers in Agege had started assembling as early as 11am for the meeting scheduled for 3pm at the103 Orile Road, Agege, venue of the APC Convergence hosted by Lawmaker representing Agege State Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Oluyinka Ogundimu.
The appreciative and elated crowd welcomed Ogundimu and the member representing Agege Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr Samuel Babatunde Adejare to the event with soul-inspiring songs and dance.
The duo was later joined by the former Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State, Dr Kayode Opeifa.
It was a gathering of the real grassroots voters and a confirmation of the fact that Ogundimu, alongside with Adejare and Opeifa, controls the largest chunk of voters in Agege Federal Constituency.
That over 6,000 members converged at the event was confirmation that the trio remain the most popular politicians in the Agege Federal Constituency.
Speaking at the event, Ogundimu stated that it was the first phase of a programme aimed at galvanising support and votes for the APC.
“This is the first phase and we’re galvanising support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) particularly, our Presidential Candidate and our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima; and our candidate for Lagos West Senatorial District, Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule,” he said.
He stated further that the relief packages distributed on the event were meant to cushion the effect of naira scarcity and the need to keep the flag flying.
“We are calling on our people not to despair. Very soon, this will be a thing of the past, but we have to remain resolute, we must build our resilience and we must continue to stand firm. On Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate we stand and we must deliver Tinubu, Shettima, Adebule and others with our votes,” Ogundimu said.
The Lagos Lawmaker also campaigned for the second coming of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu; and his Deputy, Dr. Femi Hamzat, laying emphasis on the good work that they have both done as the Manager of one of the largest economies in Africa.
“After we have elected Asiwaju as the President, and Adebule as Senator, through your votes and by the special grace of God, we’re converging here again for the second phase of this programme to drum support for our Governor, his Deputy and others.
“As the party in power, APC has not disappointed you in Lagos or have we? (the people yelled NO). So if we must choose someone to represent us at the Senate, it must be someone tested and trusted and is no other, besides our mother who was Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Her Excellency Alhaja Idiat Oluranti Adebule, let us vote for her,” Ogundimu said.
Hon Adejare tasked the people not to be discouraged by the present situation of the Nation, noting that it should rather galvanise them to vote Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as President and Oluranti Adebule as Senator on Saturday, 25 February, 2023, for a better Nigeria.
He said, “The hardship visited on us is just another way of trying to distract us and make us lose focus but hell no! We won’t, we shall vote for Asiwaju to win back our country from corruption, insecurity, infrastructural decadent, our moral and cultural decline among world countries.
“We have seen them all before now showing their abilities as leaders: Obi as Governor of Anambra where state allocation were diverted to personal businesses, Atiku as Vice President supervised the sale of National Assets to his friends and family members while Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu as Lagos State Governor, being the architect of a prosperous State we all see today”.
Hon. Kayode Opeifa whose arrival was a bit late as result of political assignments with the party leadership in the State urged the people to make the party indomitable in the forthcoming election.
“We must ensure that Asiwaju is elected the President of this country and we can contribute our quota by turning out to vote massively for him and other APC candidates particularly, Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule who is contesting on APC platform for Lagos West Senatorial District,” Opeifa said.
While expressing appreciation to the crowd for turning up in large numbers, Opeifa urged them to eschew violence. “We have to remain resolute and persevere because very soon we will all sing songs of praises to the Almighty God,” he advised.
The event was concluded with massive distribution of food items to over 6,000 residents present at the event in support of the campaigns for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule.
