A two-time Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro has described as a blatant lie, a part of an article stating that he promised the Igbos some yoruba chieftancy titles during his Gubernatorial Campaign in 2007.
Reacting to an article titled “OPEN LETTER TO GBADEBO RHODES VIVOR, LP GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE”, Obanikoro stated that nothing can be farther from the truth in relation to the claim that he ‘promised the Igbos, Yoruba chieftancy titles’.
The former Nigerian High Commissioner to the Republic of Ghana stated further that “I am a member of the Obanikoro and Eletu-Odibo families of Lagos and could never have contemplated such, let alone communicate it. Evidently, the author of the article lacks the knowledge of how committed I am to Lagos State”.
The APC Chieftain believed it was expedient to set the records straight, thereby forestalling the spread of falsehood, innuendos and indirect attempt to rewrite history.
Senator Obanikoro concluded that while not having anything against citizens of Igbo extraction, the social media should not become the means through which people peddle lies or fan the embers of discord, rather, Nigerians should come together now, more than ever, towards the Renewed Hope slogan of the incoming administration.
