Lagos Education District 1 has emerged the winner of both junior and senior categories in the Association of Commercial Subjects Teachers of Nigeria, ACTSON second annual state academic quiz for public schools in Lagos state held at the Youth Hall,Bolade Grammar School, Oshodi on 27th April.
In the junior category, six schools from the six education districts in the state: Iju-Obawole Junior Grammar School, Ikosi Junior High School, Lagos Model College, Igbo Nla, Sari-Iganmu Junior Secondary School, Festac Junior College, Isolo Junior Secondary and Metropolitan College were tested in Business Studies.
At the end of the keenly contest, Iju-Obawole Junior Grammar School that represented Lagos Education District 1 won the cash prize of N30,000 for the first position and District 6 and 5 won N20,000 and N10,000 for second and third position respectively.
In the senior category: Ijaiye-Ojokoro Housing Estate Senior High School, Akintan Senior Grammar School, Iwerekun Community Senior High School, Government College, Ikorodu represented the six education districts. The students were tested in Economics, Financial Accounting and Commerce.
District 1 represented by Ijaiye- Ojokoro Housing Estate Senior School came first and went home with a cash prize of N30,000, District 6 and District 2 came second and third respectively with cash prizes of N20,000 and N10,000.
Commenting the ACTSON President, Dr. Rafiu Ibrahim said it was an historic moment for the association since the inception of the annual quiz competition. The maiden edition he said was held at Adeyemi Bero Hall, Alausa last year and the second edition is an improvement on the first edition.
Ibrahim, disclosed that the competition was created to instill academic excellence in the students especially in commercial subjects. The prize, though small, he said is just to encourage the students. He also thanked the teachers who had toiled day and night for the students.
