When this writer opened his Facebook page today, Thursday, 18 May, 2023, the first message I read was a glowing tribute paid to Honourable Moshood Olanrewaju Oshun by his Secretary of many years, Hajia Seliat Odunayo. Yes, today is the birthday of Honourable Moshood Olanrewaju Oshun, a consummate, gentleman politician and a man with the heart of gold.
Oshun, now member-elect for the House of Representatives representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency will conclude his four-term tenure at the Lagos State House of Assembly in June before stepping onto the big stage in Abuja, a member of the Green Chamber.
This writer can confirm that Oshun has excellent relationship with everybody who comes across him, and he’s one of the lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly who have excellent relationship with their staff, so for Odunayo to eulogised him so much is not an exaggeration.
For all the years he sojourned in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Oshun is one of the most loved lawmakers in the House. He is loved by his colleagues, the leadership of the House loves him, the staff love him and even the adhoc staff always have something good to say about this gentleman.
This writer can also confirmed that Oshun is one for the most active lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly and as he moves to the House of Representatives, which is a higher calling for him, yours truly can only say, the Green Chamber’s gain is the Lagos Assembly’s Loss. He contributes intelligently to discussions, participates actively in oversight functions and committee and he will not be found wanting in any assignment given to him.
Oshun is suave, intelligent, oratory, warm, active and very friendly. And I’ll quickly add that, he’s also a fine man. He’s one of the most handsome lawmakers in the House.
He draws politicians and people to his office at will because not only does he posseses listening ears, he also ready to help at all time.
As a politician, he’s committed and loyal party man. In 2015, he was one of those who contested for the Speakership of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Of course, everybody knows he was well qualified to occupy the post.
The moment the leadership of the party settled for another lawmaker in the person of the Rt Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Oshun raised up his hands and queued behind the chosen one.
Oshun, demonstrated his absolute loyalty and commitment to the Obasa cause by not only nominating him for the post when it was time for the Speaker’s election on the floor of the House, he also read his citation, a task he also performed when Obasa was to be elected for second term as Speaker in 2019.
Oshun is well loved by both old and young, men and women, boys and girls and particularly in his primary Constituency, politics.
A diehard Manchester United supporter, the St Finbarr’s College, Akoka Old Boy, is an active sportsman, he plays football regularly and was always on the pitch at the House of Assembly enjoying his game of football.
As he celebrates his birthday, we wish him a fruitful celebration and we also wish him a successful tenure in the House of Representatives.
Happy, Moshood Olanrewaju Oshun, the fine man with a golden heart.
