The Director, Media and Publicity of the defunct All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC), Bayo Onanuga, has said the appointment of new Service Chiefs by President Bola Tinubu was not based on favouritism.
Recall that Tinubu sacked all Service Chiefs on Monday, 19 June, 2023 and named their replacements.
Onanuga made this clarification on Monday, 19 June, 2023 through his official Twitter handle.
Reacting to claims of nepotism, Onanuga stated that Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff, is from Enugu State in the South East geo-political zone; while Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye, Chief of Defense Intelligence, hails from Obudu, in Cross River State, South South geo-political zone.
According to Onanuga, the appointments spread across the major geo-political zones in the country.
“Here is a breakdown of the state/region of the Service Chiefs
Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser, Adamawa, North East
Maj. Gen. C.G Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, Kaduna, North West
Maj.Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, Osun, South West;
Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff, Enugu, South East
AVM H.B Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff, Kano, North West
DIG Kayode Egbetokun, Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ogun, South West
Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye, Chief of Defense Intelligence, Cross River, South South.
For those accusing the Tinubu government of nepotism, the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, is from Igbo Eze North LGA of Enugu State. The Chief of Intelligence is from Cross River. Critics should try to dig for information before rushing to judgment”, he wrote.
