In its bid to meet the yearnings of its passengers for speed, safety and comfort on inland waterways and ensure water transportation as a reliable alternative mode of transport, the Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) has powered back to life one of its big and passenger prefered boat, MF IPAKODO; with the installation of new high powered engines to ensure speed, safety, comfort and zero carbon emission for sustainable environment.
The 40-seater capacity passenger boat – MF Ipakodo, was purchased in 2019 with an installed 250HP, 4-Stroke Yamaha Outboard Engines. The boat is now fitted with twin 300HP 4-Stroke Yamaha Outboard Engines with a guarantee of professional support from CFAO Yamaha Nigeria as our Technical Partner and generally retroffited for passengers’ comfort and safety.
Speaking on the benefits of new improved MF Ipakodo for the passengers and momentum build-up for the Water Transportation industry, the Managing Director, LAGFERRY, Hon. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, stated that the boat has always been a preferred choice of commuters, particularly for the traders, students, corporate executives and leisure seekers for its comfortable seats and space. He stated further that the boat is now enhanced with more speed to get passengers to their destination in quick time and dazzle on the waterways on cruising assignments.
“The passionate commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to achieving the seamless multi-modal transport system of Rail, Road and Water for Lagos State informed his decision to make steady investments for the procurement of new boats, ensuring regular maintenance of the boats, rehabilitating and constructing modern terminals/jetties, channelization of routes, dredging of and removal of wreckages from the waterways,” Abdul Baqi Balogun said.
While informing that the boats are handled by competent professional seamen and women who are regularly trained, Balogun stated that government is constantly enhancing the capacity of LAGFERRY to ensure it delivers on its mandate as encapsulated in the THEMES+ Agenda of this administration which has at its fulcrum, Traffic Management and Transportation.
