A howler from goalkeeper Francis Uzoho and a deflected free kick in the last minute of added time allowed the Saudi Arabia football team to draw with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in an international friendly match which took place on Friday, 13 October, 2023, in Portugal.
Victor Boniface and Kelechi Iheanacho were the scorers for Nigeria on the day the Eagles lost several scoring chances especially in the first half of the match.
Saudi Arabia went ahead on the hour mark when one of the attackers floated a long free kick into the Nigeria box and Uzoho in an attempt to push the ball over, pushed it into his net.
Nigeria equalized in the 72nd minute through Victor Boniface after good work from the left flank by substitute Moses Simon.
The Nigerians turned the match on its head when another substitute Kelechi Iheanacho unleashed a half volley in the Saudi Arabian box to give Nigeria the lead.
They could have added to the score but sheer complacency and poor finishing robbed them of well deserved goals.
They were made to rue the lost chances when Saudi Arabia equalised with virtually with the last kick of the match when a deflected free kick went into the Nigerian’s net.
