The Sacked Oba Onibeju of Ibeju-lekki, Oba Waliu Rasaki Olasunkanmi, a.k.a. Rasaq Oluwo.
An Igbosere High Court of lagos State, has restrained the the Onibeju of Ibeju-lekki, Lagos State, Oba Waliu Rasaki Olasunkanmi, aka Rasaq Oluwo, from parading himself as the monarch of the Ibejuland.
Justice K. O. Dawodu, restrained the Oba from calling or parading himself as the Onibeju of IbejuLand, on Tuesday, 12 December, 2023, while granting an order of mandatory injunction brought against him by Prince Adewale Adeyemi Abdul Rauf Oniwonlu, in a suit numbered LD/9297GCMW/2022.
Others listed as first to 10 respondents in the suit were: the Executive Governor of Lagos State; the Attorney General of Lagos State; the Commissioner For Local Government and Community Affairs, Lagos State; the Ibeju Lekki Local Government; High Chief Moshood Musefiu Adewale, Aro of Iberekodo and Onibeju Kingmaker; Chief Shuaibu Oloritun Bobagunwa, Bobagunwa of Ibeju Land; Prince (Chief) Talibi Adesanya Idogun, Idogun of IbejuLand and Onibeju Kingmaker; Chief Tawaliu Abu, Sasore of IbejuLand and Onibeju Kingmaker; for themselves and on behaif of the Onibeju Kingmakers of Agbedua House Ibeju) and Prince Saidu Hassan Ayinuora Oniwolu (Head of Oba Badesuwo Branch of Oniwonlu Royal Family of ibeju-Agbe).
Others are: Prince Wasiu Apena -idogun, Head of Oba Ogunfayo Branch of Oniwonlu Royal Family of Iwerekun; Alhaji (Prince) Aliru Sanusi, Head of Oba Olumoye Branch of Oniwolu Royal Family of Akodo; Prince (Chief) Adewale Lawal, lwaju-Oba of Akodo, Ibeju Kingdom and Chairman, Oniwonlu Obaship Selection Committee; Prince Adegunwa Adeboyejo, Baale of Eputu Town, member, Oniwolu Obaship Selection Committee; Prince Quadri Babatunde Surakat Idogun, member, Oniwolu Obaship Selection Committee; Prince Sikiru Adeniran, Member, Oniwonlu Obaship Selection Committee; Prince Seedeeq Sharafadeen Adewale Oniwonlu, Oniwonlu General Secretary and Secretary to the Obaship Selection Committee; for themselves and as accredited Heads.
Principal members and representatives of the Oniwonlu Royal Family of Ibeju-lekki Kingdom: Prince Ademuyiwa Akande Oniwonlu, Prince Idris Ajumobi, Prince Ismail Bakare, Prince Wasiu Adefunwa and Prince Lateef Ajumobi were also included in the suit.
The Applicant, Prince Adewale Adeyemi Abdul Rauf Oniwonlu, through his lawyer, Adedayo Oshodi, had approached the court for the mandatory injunction against the respondents, on the ground that the first to third respondents were aware of the pendency of the suit, before going ahead to install Chief Waliu Rasaki Olasunkanmi, aka Rasaq Oluwo, as Oba of Ibeju-lekki.
Justice Dawodu in her ruling, after listening to the lawyer’s submission held that: “the first to third defendants had been served and were aware of the pendency of the suit before they went ahead with the installation.”
The judge also held that the sanctity of the court must be preserved.
The judge, while adjourning the case to February 14, 2024, for hearing of the substantive suit, restrained the monarch from parading himself as Oba of Ibeju-Lekki, till the hearing and determination of the suit.
