Sadiq Tafida, son of the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Njiddah Tafida, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has emerged as the member-elect for House of Representatives to represent Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency in Taraba State.
Tafida, 32, according to the Independent National electoral Commission(INEC), scored a total of 19,681 votes garnered from the rerun and supplementary polls held on Wednesday, 14 February, 2024.
Announcing the results on Thursday, 15 February, 2024 the Returning Officer of INEC, a lecturer at the University of Wukari, Professor Olanrewaju Oladipo, said the PDP candidate scored a total of 19,681 votes to emerge as the winner of the keenly contested rerun election in Taraba.
Tafida’s counterpart in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Innocent Jabayang came second with 16,379 votes, while Aminu Malle of the All Progressive Congress( APC), got 12,662 votes.
The election, which the returning officer said was keenly contested, saw the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) saw Aminu Liman, scoring 3,646 votes.
The rerun election for the House of Representatives position was held in the state on February 3, 2024, but was declared inconclusive by INEC.
