In a bid to foster inclusivity and mitigate the impact of economic challenges in his council area, the Chairman of Odiołowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Hon. Rasaq Olusola Ajala, on Thursday, 28 March, 2024, initiated distribution of palliatives to the Christian community within the council area.
During the event, Hon. Ajala emphasized the importance of religious tolerance and urged the community to transcend political and tribal affiliations in their interactions.
He reiterated the LCDA tradition of providing support to both Muslim and Christian communities during significant religious festivities.
However, he highlighted the pressing need to address the prevailing economic challenges exacerbated by the removal of oil subsidies.
Hon. Ajala announced the distribution of essential food items, including 50 kg of rice, one thousand crates of eggs, and two thousand tubers of yam, to benefit one thousand members of the Christian community.
“This initiative, part of the LCDA’s ongoing efforts to alleviate hardship, follows previous interventions where rice, live chickens, clothes, and financial assistance were provided to stakeholders,” he said.
Hon. Ajala unveiled plans for a subsidized food programme slated for April, aimed at stabilizing market prices and ensuring food security for residents.
He emphasized the affordability of essential items such as eggs, dubbed “Ẹyin Ajala,” which will be sold at a discounted rate to alleviate the burden on households.
Speaking on the broader context of governmental intervention, Hon. Ajala underscored the LCDA’s commitment to complementing federal and state initiatives. He stressed the need for synergy across all tiers of government to effectively address the socio-economic challenges facing citizens.
“This intervention is to support and cushion the effects of the temporary hardship people are facing as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy and the obvious economic crisis in the country,” remarked Hon. Ajala.
“The distribution of food palliatives to the Christian community not only exemplifies our dedication to inclusive governance but also serves as a beacon of hope amidst economic uncertainties, fostering unity and resilience within the Odiołowo-Ojuwoye LCDA,” he concluded.
