At least two people died in a fatal road accident on the Akure-Ondo expressway at Bolorunduro, the headquarters of Ondo East Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday, 22 May, 2024
The Ondo State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps, which confirmed the development, said accident involved a motorcycle with the registration number NND 218OC and an unregistered Toyota Hilux Jeep.
The motorcycle, which was suspected to have been speeding, attempted to overtake a vehicle heading to Akure while facing the oncoming Hilux heading to Ondo.
A resident of the community, who identified herself as Lydia, narrated that the accident was caused by the speeding drivers of both vehicles.
She said that one of the vehicles collided with the motorcycle, resulting in the death of the rider, while two persons died in the Jeep and one person was injured.
” The rider of the ill-fated motorcycle while a top speed suddenly overtook the car to hit the vehicle and left two persons dead, with one other seriously injured.
“Having noticed that an accident had occurred, the driver of the Hilux, and some of its occupants took to their heels. One person on the motorcycle who was coming from church died on the spot while the other was unconscious,” she said.
The Ondo Unit Commander of the FRSC, Salahdeen Raufu, stated that the crash was caused by a lack of concentration on the part of the drivers of the vehicles involved.
“Three people, two males and one female died in the accident while one person was injured.
“The injured victim was taken to UNIMED Ondo town by the rescue team while the dead bodies were taken to UNIMED morgue,” Raufu said
