Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Wednesday, 29 Ma, 2024, inaugurated the 4.779KM Yebumot-Adeta Roundabout and Adeta- Oloje roads.
He instantly renamed the roads after two giants from Ilorin in honour of their contributions to growth and the prestige of the capital city.
Yebumot Adeta is named after retired Major-General Mohammed Abdullahi Adangba, while Adeta to Oloje Road is rechristened Sheikh Yahya Murtadha Agodi — a late prominent Muslim scholar.
“One of the social contracts we have with the people is to deploy resources to improve the condition of living through the provision of infrastructure. The launching this morning of the 4.779 Yebumot-Adeta-Oloje road satisfies this key objective,” AbdulRazaq said at the brief ceremony held at the newly designed Adeta roundabout.
“Travel time will be reduced within the axis, volume of trade will rise, the value properties will appreciate, and quality of life will be enhanced, among other benefits we can think of.”
AbdulRazaq thanked the people of the community for their patience while the job lasted, acknowledging the difficulties that came with the delays associated with sudden inflationary trends and the renegotiation of the terms of contract, among other challenges.
“I urge community folks to take responsibility for public facilities. The Ministry of Works and Transport will continue to enlighten the people about road management and a need for everyone to own and protect public infrastructures in their domains,” the Governor said.
Commissioner for Works and Transport Engr AbdulQuawiy Olododo, for his part, appreciated AbdulRazaq for his vision for a modern Kwara and for continuous support for the Ministry to discharge its responsibilities.
“This project is more than just a road; it is a symbol of progress, a testament to this Administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure development, and a beacon of hope for a brighter future,” he said.
“This road is more than just a transportation artery; it is a lifeline connecting our people, businesses, and communities. It is a catalyst for economic growth and sustainable development and a symbol of our unrelenting pursuit of excellence.”
Attended by members of the state cabinet, State Chairman of APC Prince Sunday Fagbemi, traditional rulers and community leaders from Adewole Ward, the event was part of the activities marking the first anniversary of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s second term administration.
The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, who was represented by the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin Dr Abubakar Usman Jos, applauded AbdulRazaq for his impactful projects and programmes.
The President Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumin Abdulmalik, said the Governor is a man with a good sense of history with many accomplishments in public service.
“This project is more than just a road project. It is a monumental project. For some of us who were here in 1967 when the late father of the Governor opened this axis up with the establishment of Ilorin College Ilorin (ICI), we knew what this road was and we now know what the road is with this project,” the IEDPU president said.
