The Coach of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, Randy Waldrum has released the names of the 18 players that will wear the team’s colour in the female football event of the Olympic Games starting in Paris later this month, reports thegazellenews.com
There were also four alternate players who will be on standby if there is any case of injury in the course of the competition, thegazellenews.com further reports.
Defender Ashleigh Plumptre was a notable absence probably due to the fact that she is recuperating from the injury which prevented her from taking part in the final qualifiers against South Africa.
Sisters Toni and Nicole Payne made the list which also include Africa’s best goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie; six-time Africa Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala; Athletico Madrid Female Player of the Year, Rasheedat Ajibade; veteran defender, Osinachi Ohale; Benfica versatile player, Christy Ucheibe; and midfield linchpin, Deborah Abiodun.
Nigeria plays in Group C which has been dubbed ‘Group of Death’ against Brazil, Spain and Japan.
