Nigerians have been called upon to prevent the #EndBadGovernance protest from descending into chaos and bloodletting.
Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, who made the call while addressing newsmen on Friday, 2 August, 2024, added that the military would not stand idly by while destruction and looting is taking place.
Musa commended the professionalism of the Nigerian security forces, particularly the police, while emphasising the distinction between peaceful demonstrations and criminal activities.
The End Bad Governance protest happening nationwide started on Thursday has recorded death casualties while several others were injured after the second day of the protest planned for 10 days.
The authorities also said over 1000 people have been arrested for looting, vandalism and other such crimes since the beginning of the protest.
The CDS noted that the initial peaceful nature of the protests had been overshadowed by criminal elements seeking to cause chaos. “What we saw yesterday was, at the beginning, some semblance of a very peaceful demonstration, but which was quickly taken over by a bunch of criminals that don’t mean us well,” he said.
