One of Nigeria’s medal hopes at the ongoing Paris Olympics, Favour Ofili lived up to her pre-tournament hype winning her heat to qualify for the semi finals of the women’s 200m event, reports thegazellenews.com.
Running in Lane 2 of Heat 6, Ofili clocked a time of 22.24 seconds, her season best, to win the heat. Her time was the second best among the qualifiers, only bettered by American Gabrielle Thomas who clocked 22.20 seconds to win her heat.
Ofili outran seasoned athlete like Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain and Gambian Gina Bass to win her heat.
She is now one of the favourites to pick one of the final tickets in the semi final slated for Monday, 5 August, 2024.
