Niger State Commissioner of Police Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman Thursday, 8 August, 2024 paraded 23 hoodlums that allegedly vandalised the Tafa Local Government Secretariat during the ongoing hunger and hardship protest in the state.
Parading the miscreants in Minna, tCP Danmamman said the hoodlums vandalised the Secretariat and set it ablazed, and burned two cars while two others were vandalized during the nationwide protest which commenced on 1 August, 2024,
Danmamman explained that they further looted office valuables such as computer, refrigerator, file cabinet, office celing fan, office chairs, television set and office burglaries
“Some miscreants of Tafa area of Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State, and that of Sabon-Wuse Tafa and Hayin-Dikko Gurara area of Niger State mobilised and stormed Tafa LGA Secretariat of Niger State located along Abuja, Kaduna expressway, Sabon-Wuse, Niger State.
“The police and other security agencies responded to the scene and a total of 23 suspects were arrested with different dangerous weapons, while others were dispersed from the scene and most of the looted items were recovered mostly from Kagarko in Kaduna State,” the state police boss said..
The suspects arrested are identified as: Musa Umar, 24; Aliyu Ibrahim, 13; Shamsudeen Abdullahi, 25; Auwal Sanusi, 30; Isiyaku Sanusi, 10; Ahmed Muktar, 20; Ashiru Abdullahi aka Yellow, 10; all of Tafa Kaduna State.
Others are: Justice Danjuma, 19; Ismaila Aliyu, 26; Aliyu Betara, 24; Musa Sani, 32; Yasir Ibrahim, 13; Abdullahi Yusuf 26; Bakir Hussain, 15; Ahmad Jibrin; Abubakar Salisu, 18; Yusufu Tijani, 28; Lawal Abdullahi, 35; Idris Sani aged 21; Ibrahim Haruna 35; all of Sabon-Wuse Tafa Niger State.
Others are: Ibrahim Nuhu, 18; Abdulrahman Abubakar, 18 both of Hayin-Dikko, in Gurara, Niger State while Saifullahi Usman, 24, hails from Komboso in Kano
Items recovered from the suspects include wooden bench and office chairs, car side mirror, extension wire, reflective jacket, ceiling fan, table calculator, laptop and generator, ceiling sheets and office television.
The Commissioner of Police further revealed that the items were returned to the LG Secretariat in Tafa, while all suspects were transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation.
He assured that they will be arraigned in court for prosecution as soon as the ongoing investigation is concluded.
