Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday, 16 August, 2024 showered praises on the Chairman of Agboyi- Ketu Local Council Development Area, Mayor Dele Oshinowo for his commitment to service delivery to the people of his constituency.
Sanwo called on the hardworking Oshinowo to spread the gospel of his service delivery to his colleagues in councils in the state.
Governor Sanwo Olu stated this on Friday, 16 August, 2024 while inaugurating Raymond Estates and Sterling Heights built by Agboyi-Iketu Local Government Council Development Area under the leadership of Oshinowo
The project, Raymond Estate and Sterling Heights, which is a public private sector initiative, was delivered by Oshinowo-led administration of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area in conjunction with Osita Homes and Sterling Bank.
“I have to acknowledge your wonderful performance in office in terms of service delivery to the people of your community. I am very happy for continuous efforts to raising the bar of governance and ensuring purposeful development for the people. You should tell this laudable effort of yours to other council chairmen in the state and encourage them to emulate you,” the Lagos Governor said.
Sanwo-Olu, while unveiling the projects, described the schemes as an affirmation of the autonomy enjoyed by Local Government Areas in Lagos, stressing that the Agboyi-Ketu council Chairman had shown accountability in driving governance and development at the grassroots level.
“This is another visible evidence that Local Government Areas and their LCDA appendages are working effectively well in Lagos. Today, we are handing over brand new housing projects to our citizens, which are two estates in one premises. The chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA has successfully regenerated what used to be an ungoverned space and a den of criminals.
“The council has set a new trajectory and has reversed what we saw as a liability to an asset. I commend the Dele Oshinowo for showing public accountability. Before Local Government autonomy came back on the front burner, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was our Governor, had set the foundation to ensure successive Local Government administrations in Lagos are transparently run autonomously.
“Resources available to our Local Government Areas are now being utilised properly to deliver quality dividends of democracy to the populace. There is no better job for me than to continue to encourage and support my council chairmen for more good jobs. Our councils have become shining examples for others in the country. We will continue to provide an enabling environment for governments at the grassroots to thrive, ”Sanwo Olu said.
He stressed importance of partnership between private and public sector, noting the resolve of grassroots to promote development in healthcare, women and youth development, transportation, infrastructure, tourism,
In his welcome address, Oshinowo expressed gratitude to the Sanwo-Olu administration for tremendous support, saying the housing initiative spearheaded by his administration through creation of Agboyi-Ketu Properties and Investment Board in collaboration with the private sector aims to align with the Sustainable Development Goals by providing affordable, accessible and quality housing to address housing deficits in the state.
He added that the housing project exemplifies the strongest collaboration with the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration.
“The initiative spearheaded by our administration through the creation Agboyi-Ketu Property and Investment Board (PIB) in collaboration with the private sector aims to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SSGs) by providing affordable, accessible and quality housing, in order to address deficits in our dear state. This initiative not only showcases Agboyi-Ketu, but also aims to boost our Internally Generated Revenue.
“Furthermore, our administration places great emphasis on infrastructure development as a means to enhance human capital and stimulate economic growth.
“I affirm our administration’s dedication to delivering good governance to the people of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA exemplifying that effective governance at the grassroots level is achievable in Nigeria”.
Oshinowo said his administration places emphasis on infrastructure development as a means to enhance human capital and stimulate economic growth, just as he also added that the construction activities have generated numerous direct and indirect employment opportunities, particularly benefitting the youth and artisans in the community.
The council boss also announced a digital property registry that showed comprehensive documentation of the LCDA’s real estate assets, while also providing records of allottees, subscribers and general information about the housing projects.
He urged residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, saying it will bring Nigeria to greatness.
The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sen. Tokunbo Abiru also described the projects as “the outcome of creativity and commitment and one the things that makes Lagos State best in Nigeria, Governor Sanwo –Olu best in Nigeria just as it also showed that governance is at the grassroots level is working.
Abiru expressed his sincere appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for creating enabling environment for making all the councils in the state to function.
“I thank you sir for always being there for us, making us flourish. Thank you for supporting all the local governments and LCDA in the states to thrive.
The Senator, who showered praises on Oshinowo for his service delivery to the people in his LCDA, also commended him in his drive for internally generated revenue, proving employments to the teeming youths in the council and his commitment to the development of the LCDA.
The Lagos State Speaker, Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, represented by Femi Saheed , also praised the Chairman of the LCDA under the leadership of Oshinowo for embarking on the laudable project in the LCDA, saying “it is a good investment and a model for all other housing estates in the country.”
Obasa also said the what people gathering there to witness showed how partnering with the private sector can be of beneficial not only to the local government but to the entire residents of the LCDA in terms of financial gain.
Speaking also at the occasion, the National Youth Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Honourable Dayo Israel, said “I am not surprised for him embarking on this laudable project. He knows that housing is a key factor in the life of human being.”
Israel added that “ Oshinowo is a good example of how a local chairman should operate in the service for the betterment of the people in their jurisdiction.”
He commended Oshinowo for following the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu and replicating what the state government under Governor Sanwo –Olu is doing at his LCDA.
The twin housing project, consisting of 170 flats, brings the estates opened by the state in the last five years to 19 or 20, excluding those by local governments and LCDAs.
