In a significant stride towards renewable energy and community development, the Chairman, Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Hon. Rasaq Olusola Ajala officially inaugurated its pioneering solar charging stations on Friday, 27 September, 2024.
The project aims to enhance energy accessibility, provide clean energy solutions and foster sustainability within the community.
According to Ajala, the project was the proactive reaction of his administration to address energy challenge of the residents.
This project is sequel to the free solar training project. The students led by their facilitator, Engr. Olajide Habeeb designed and constructed the solar charging station to serve as a community development project to address a major part of the energy challenge of the residents.
Ajala announced that the project shall feature ten units of solar-powered charging stations installed across strategic locations in the nine wards in Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA.
Each Charging station shall have the capacity to charge more than 50 devices simultaneously.
“This project will bring about a significant percentage reduction in carbon footprint within ilupeju being an industrial zone of the community and enhance energy access for residents, businesses, and visitors
“It will also foster economic growth and financial independence within the community as individuals will be employed to be the charging stations administrators,” Ajala said.
He emphasized the project’s significance, stating his experience on the trauma of having a dead device especially in the era of epileptic power supply.
He stated, “This project is one of our ways of demonstrating our commitment to leveraging technology for community empowerment

“This solar charging station project marks a significant milestone in our journey towards a sustainable and connected community”.
At the event were the the Vice Chairman of the council, Hon Seyi Jakande; Leader of the Legislative Arm of government Hon Rilwan Ola Ajenifuja; Secretary of the LCDA, Hon Mujeeb Ayinde Daramola; and Supervisors in various departments.
Also at the event were the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon Ismail Babatunde Kazeem (TUNKAZ); party leaders across the wards; CDC Chairman, Otunba Adebayo Adekunle; community leaders; and Youth leader in the Area Comrade Demola Taiwo (Emir).
The management staff led by the Council Manager, Mrs Afolake Otenaike; were also at the event with the Council Treasurer, Mr Rufai Mujitaba Karohunwi. All HODs in various departments were also present.
