Troops of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) operating under Sector 3 in Mongunu, Borno State, have neutralized terrorists in clearance operations.
The Chief Military Information Officer HQ MNJTF N’djamena, Chad, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, made this disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen .
According to Osoba, the troops in a joint effort with hybrid force and air component support, intercepted and neutralized some fleeing wounded ISWAP terrorists and captured additional cache of weapons.
According to the statement, the troops successfully targeted and interdicted several armed and wounded terrorists on motorbikes, who were regrouping in Guzamala.
“In a follow-up ground operation, troops eliminated 15 terrorists and captured one alive as they attempted to flee after sustaining more injuries.
“The troops also destroyed three additional Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs), bringing the total number of VBIEDs destroyed to 7.”
According to the statement, the operation led to the capture of a significant cache of weapons, including 7 AK-47 rifles, one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bomb and tube, 2 Anti-aircraft guns, and 152 Shilka rounds of ammunition .
Osoba said in the statement thethe ongoing clearance operation marks a decisive step in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the region, further weakening the terrorists ranks.
He added that the MNJTF remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicating terrorist threats and ensuring the safety of the local population.
