Inside sources in the seat of power have confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Bashir Jamoh PhD. as the Director-Deneral of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Dr. Jamoh is the current Executive Director (Admin & Finance) at NIMASA. He will replace Dakuku Peterside who was appointed in 2016 to head the maritime agency whose tenure as NIMASA DG ends on March 10, 2020.
Dr. Jamoh is a Ph.D. holder from the University of Port Harcourt, specializing in Logistics and Transport Management.
He has 32 years of professional and technocratic experience in the transportation and maritime sectors of the Nigerian economy.
In addition to his Ph.D. degree in Logistics and Transport Management, he also holds Master’s Degree in Management from Korea Maritime and Ocean University, Post Graduate Diploma in Management Sciences from Bayero University Kano and a Diploma in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, respectively.
Dr. Jamoh joined the Maritime agency January of 1994 as a in Principal Commercial Officer, rising to the rank of Executive Director in August of 2016. He has various publications including “Harnessing Nigeria’s Maritime Assets – Past, Present & Future” and “Enhancing the Performance of the Maritime Sector in Nigeria: Effect of Macroeconomic. Variables: Journal of Maritime Research, Spanish Society of Maritime Research.”
He recently turned 56 years old and is married with children. He hails from Kaduna state.
Industry experts have reacted to the appointment saying he is a round peg in a round hole.
They commended President Buhari for picking who they described as “a thoroughbred professional” to man the Maritime agency, saying it will only be good for the sector.
They described his appointment as one of the best decisions made by the Buhari administration.
