A member of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Honourable Sylvester Ogunkelu has donated food items worth several millions of naira to his constitutes, The Gazelle News.com reports.
Hon. Ogunkelu representing Epe State Constituency 2 in the Assembly, distributed the items to all the wards in his Constituency.
Speaking to The Gazelle News.com on reason for the donation, the lawmaker who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversea and Investment, said the donation was part of his personal support to cushion the negative effect of the Coronavirus-induced lockdown on his constituents.
“I know the lockdown is having serious effects on our people but it is a price we’ve to pay to contain and curtail the spread of this dangerous virus,” he said.
The lawmaker stated it is a matter that gladden the heart that the state is seeing the positive effect of the lockdown but there is need to put smiles on the faces of the people for going through the sacrifice.
“We’ve to commend the Lagos State Government under the able leadership our amiable Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for putting in place measures that have assisted in curtailing and containing the spread of the virus.
“It is on record that the Sanwo-Olu administration has become the positive reference point in the battle against the virus in the country.
“We must also commend the state House of Assembly for giving the Governor and his team, the Legislative back up to function,” the lawmaker said.
He his constitutes that he would continue to support the state government to reduce poverty level of the mass.
Items donated include: bags of rice, bags of beans, cartons vegetable and palm oil, cartoons of spaghetti and macaroni among others.
