Odiolowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area has started distribution of food packs to vulnerable and indigent residents of the council area.
The Gazelle News.com reports that a total of 6,000 households will benefit from the programme aimed at cushioning the effect of the Coronavirus-induced lockdown on the residents of the council area.
The Chairman of the LCDA, Hon Rasak Olusola Ajala, in an exclusive chat with The Gazelle News.com stated that the distribution of the items is part of the council’s efforts at complementing the measure put in place by the state government.
“We are targeting 6,000 households in all and our targets are the vulnerables and the indigent residents of the council area,” the council chairman said.
On method of selecting beneficiaries of the programme, Hon Ajala said, “we were not involved at all. The beneficiaries were selected by the community development associations (CDAs) and the religious bodies: the local chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the League of Imams and Alfas in the local government”.
The Gazelle News.com learnt further that 250 households will benefit from the programme for each of the nine wards in the council area while various ethnic associations and interest groups will also submit list of names of vulnerables in their midst.
“This is devoid of party, religious or ethnic affliations. This programme cuts across all segments in this council and we have also put in place measures to ensure that the packs get to those who are supposed to get them. There won’t be discrimination of any form,” he said.
Hon Ajala commended the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for its proactive reaction to the outbreak of coronavirus in the state which he noted assisted in no small way in containing and curtailing the spread of the pandemic.
“I want to commend Governor Sanwo-Olu and his team for their proactive reaction and we’ve to acknowledge that if not their proactiveness, we may have been talking of a national tragedy, God forbids,” he said.
Each food pack contains 4kg of rice and 4kg of garri each.
