Some parts of Lagos State were in turmoil today as hoodlums rampaged streets in attempt to rob people of their valuables.
It started like a joke when the popular Awawa Boys flooded streets in the broad daylight to disposes innocent people, who are insde their houses observing the lockdown orders of the government.
Eyewitness account said the notorious Awawa Boys suddenly surged into a popular arear called Jankara in Ijaye and entred the market to attack the traders and cart away their money and other valuable possession.
Within a twinkling of an eye,the eyewitness said, the hoodlums, who numbersed more than 50 surrounded the market ana started, shooting, looting and carting away valuables of victims.
Information had it that the attacks were coordinated in some ideatified areaas of their operations. The areas simultaneously attacked included Jibodu along Onipanu, Funsho owoyemi, Sani Balogun, Beckley Estate (in Abule Egba), Jankara/Clem Road in Ijaye and Agbado.
Investigation revealed that the police at the Ebenezer Police Poat, who came who responded to a distress called were overpowered by the hoodlums and they (the police) quickly bit a retreat.
Young menin the area such as Tayo Makinde Street, Clem Road, Boosere Street and Aderupoko area were said to have all came out to protect theselves from the menace of the Awawa Boys.
Gazelle news gathered that it was a thug of war between the hoodlums and the people who combined forces and stood their grounds.
It was noted that when the hoodlums realised that they were about to be surrounded and overpowered, they fled. Luck however ran out of two of them, who were arrested and beaten to a pulp before the Opreation MESA came to the scene.
A resident told Gazelle news that “for more than a month now, short before the lockdown. These hoodlums, who called themselves Awawa Boys, have been terrorising street by street in this area.
“About three weeks ago, they came at night to a strret along Clem Road called Fadipe Street. They looted the entire street and killed one person.
“People in Ijaye and Alagbado Area have been having sleepless night because of these Awawa Boys. We have coordinated pourselves and started a Vigilance Group. We stay all night because of these boys. This is because if they come at night, before police could come they would have wreck havoc and left.
“When we made it difficult for them to rob at night, they now capitalise on the sit at home oder to rob street by street.
“We want government to come to our aid in the areas. You cant even come out of your gate to see what is happening for fear of being attacked by the boys, who move in pack og up to 50 boys at atime like a pack of hyena.”
