As the nation continues to record new cases of the deadly Coronavirus, Nigerians are now panicking the lockdown might continue as government warns of the need to stay at home as number of community infection continues to rise.
Surprisingly, while some States like Kano and Edo have recorded more index cases and the number keeps rising in Lagos State, Osun State has proved an exception to the rule of rising curve of Covid19 incidents.
The Gazelle News.com gathered that the state is now free of the deadly virus after discharging the last patient from its isolation centre on Tuesday, 21 April, 2020.
The Governor of the State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola in a brief statement said his government has discharged the remaining COVID-19 patient receiving treatment at its facility in Ejigbo after testing negative twice for the virus in line with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) procedure.
Flanked by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu, the Governor disclosed this on Tuesday to the relief of the people of the state, who have just begun the second round of lockdown in the state.
Oyetola said, “the remaining patient is among Ivory Coast returnees at the Ejigbo isolation centre and was discharged today (yesterday).”
It would be recalled that with the sudden return about three weeks ago of about 127 returnees from Ivory Coast, the active case of the state jumped from three to 20 overnight, pushing the state to third in the country after Lagos and FCT on the ladder of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country.
It first looked like the state would be overwhelmed considering its meagre resources but with the proactiveness of the state government the Covid19 was curtailed and finally contained.
Today the statistics given by the state is: Osun covid 19 record: Infected = 20: Discharged = 20 :Active cases = 0 ; Death = 0.
