Italian World Cup winner and one of the greatest strikers of all time, Paolo Rossi is dead, reports The Gazelle News.com.
Rossi’s death was announced early Thursday, 10 December, 2020 by Italian TV channel, RAI Sports Channel, where the late Rossi has been working as a sports pundit.
The cause of his death was not disclosed.
It is the third time in two weeks that the world will witness the death of Iconic football figures: Diego Armando Maradona died two weeks ago of heart attack, Senegalese Papa Bouba Diop died few days later after a long illness and now Paolo Rossi whose cause of death was not disclosed.
Paolo Rossi played all his football career in Italy spending most of his productive years with Juventus where he won two Scudetti and the 1984 European Cup.
Rossi rose to prominence in the 1982 World Cup in Spain where his hatrick against hot favourites Brazil back home early. Up till today that Brazilian team of Zico, Socrates, Falcao, Junior, Eder, Cerezo and Oscar among others is still regarded as the best team not to have won the World Cup. Their samba style football orchestrated by their coach, Tele Santana enchanted the footballing world and they were overwhelming favourites to win the World Cup in Spain but the deadly had other ideas stunning them with a hatrick.
Rossi went on to score two more goals in the semi final against Poland and the first goal in the final against West Germany winning the Golden Ball and the Golden Shoe in the process.
He won the Ballon Dor that year.
