Former Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Dr Kayode Opeifa, took over officially on Thursday, 30 January, 2025 as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), but thegazellenews.com can exclusively report that that is not the major story.
At the NRC headquarters in Ebute-Meta, Lagos, Opeifa officially took possession of handover notes from his predecessor in the presence of prominent personalities like: the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire; All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Fouad Oki; Agboyi-Ketu LCDA chairmanship aspirant, Ibrahim Ladega; and Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transport, Sola Giwa among others.
Unknown to many, aggrieved workers of the corporation were planning to embark on a strike next week to protest against what they described as poor welfare.
However, with the coming of Opeifa on board, the proposed strike has been shelved.
“We have implicit confidence in his ability and capacity to deliver, so we have shelved the proposed strike action,” one of the executive members of the workers’ union said.
They stated that very soon they will go into negotiation with the new management team led by Opeifa and iron out their differences.
