The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has been decorated as the Grand Patron of the African Para Games and Para Sports in Africa.
At the brief ceremony held at the Conference Room of the Office of the First Lady, the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh noted the laudable contributions of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to sports development in the country.
He said the First lady has shown remarkable commitment to the cause of youths and women not leaving out the men as well.
Senator Enoh expressed the hope that as the Grand Patron of the African Para Games and Para Sports in Africa, the First Lady will bring a new lease of life with her personality, to the sector.
Before her decoration by the President of the African Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, he appealed to the First Lady to encourage the First Ladies of other African countries to come on board as the Grand Patron of the organisation in their various countries.
Responding, Senator Oluremi Tinubu recognized that sports, in all its forms, has the unique ability to foster unity and understanding among people of diverse backgrounds noting that the African Para Games and Para Sports embody the spirit of inclusion.
“The presence of these dedicated officials here today reminds us of the incredible power of sports to inspire, unite, and transform lives. The African Para Games and Para Sports have been instrumental in providing a platform for differently-abled athletes to showcase their exceptional talents, determination, and resilience.
“I believe that it is our collective responsibility to ensure that every individual, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to shine and be recognized for their skills and achievements. As Grand Patron, I will support these dedicated individuals and organizations involved with the African Para Games and Para Sports to further its mission within my humble capacity,” she said.
The First Lady expressed her gratitude to the African Para Games and Para Sports for the recognition while looking forward to the journey of working together to promote the rights of Para-athletes.
