Two Super Eagles stand-out players, Ademola Lookman and Alexander Iwobi have been recognised for their outstanding form after being ranked among the Top 100 attacking players in the World this season by ESPN.
Lookman remarkably ranked higher than more established players like Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior and Bukayo Saka of Arsenal.
Lookman achieved a remarkable ranking of 16th on the list, with a score of 14.78 from the competitive metric.
His incredible performance this season includes a remarkable statistic of 12 goals and 6 assists across 22 appearances, solidifying his status as one of Serie A’s foremost players.
Lookman’s contributions speak to his technicality, modern day wide-play, scoring abilities and playmaking skills, placing him in the 99th percentile for goals and expected assists compared to other players.
Lookman’s statistics thus places him ahead of players like Vinicius Junior, and Bukayo Saka.
Nigeria’s playmaker, Alex Iwobi who has also enjoyed a spectacular season, earned the 27th spot on the list with a score of 12.44.
Iwobi has consistently been pivotal to Fulham’s success this season, scoring 5 goals and providing 3 assists thus far. According to the report, Iwobi has transformed into a dynamic ball-moving midfielder.
This ranking focused solely on players competing in Europe’s Big Five leagues namely: English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, German Bundesliga, Italian Serie A, and French Ligue 1
The ESPN rankings considered players who excel at moving the ball up the field, create scoring opportunities, and consistently finds the back of the net.
Commendably, Lookman and Iwobi keeps shining for club and vountry – their position in this ranking stand as testament to their incredible form this season.
Conspicuously absent from this significant ranking is Super Eagles goal machine, Victor Osimhen (V09) who has been spectacular at the Super Lig since he went on loan from SSC Napoli. The ESPN ranking does not consider the Turkish Super Lig1 thereby excluding Osimhen’s heroics from being considered.
