The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended the Chairman of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi for what he described as his ‘progressive, purposeful and innovative leadership of the party in the state, reports thegazellenews.com.
The Governor spoke on Sunday, 17 December, 2023 at the Acme Road state secretariat of the party during the Xmas Carol Night organised by the state executive council members of the party.
The event was held to commemorate the yuletide period.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended Ojelabi and the entire Exco members of the party for their commitment, loyalty and resilience which resulted in the victory of the party at the state and national levels in the last general elections.
“Pastor Ojelabi has steered and continue to steer the ship of our great party admirably and commendably. He has proven to be a man of ideas, resilience and commitment.
“We’re happy today that it’s during your tenure that APC produced the President of Nigeria from our state, our father, mentor and leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
The Lagos Governor also commended the Xmas Carol event which he noted, was the first in the history of the party in the state.
“I commend entire Exco members of this party for a job well done birthing this innovative programme. It’s the first of its kind in the history of our great party in the state and I’m sure that it will out live the initiator of this programme. This is a commendable legacy you’re putting in place today,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the Lagos APC Chairman stated that the programme was organised not only as a get together for party members but also as a forum for showing appreciation to Almighty God for His mercies.
“We’ve to appreciate Almighty God for His mercy on us. He gave us victory during the last General Elections, and equally gave us resounding victory during the litigations that follow.
“We’ve to also appreciate Him for preserving our lives and for His protection on us. He’s an awesome God.
“While we appreciate Him for His mercy on us, we will still ask for more from Him. That’s why we are here. To seek His face again in all our actions and utterances in the coming year,” Ojelabi said.
Prominent politicians read passages from the Holy Bible at the event. They are: the First Lady of the state, Dr Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Abimbola Saalu-Hundeyin; the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire who was represented by the Vice Chairman of Agbado-Okeodo Local Council Development Area, Mrs Ajoke Moromoke Aminat Obe; the National Youth Leader of APC, Dayo Israel; and former Deputy Governor of the state, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye.
Highlight of the event was the donation of N1 million to the Parcelli School for the Blind by the Ojelabi-led Exco of the Lagos APC.
