The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, alongside 59 other alumni of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ile, will on Saturday, 4 December, 2021, be conferred with Distinguished Great Ife Alumnus Award by the institution.
The conferment, which is part of the activities marking the 60th anniversary of the prestigious University, will hold at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State.
This is contained in a letter seen dated Thursday, 11 November, 2021 and personally signed by OAU Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede addressed to the presidential aide.
The letter reads partly:
“It is with great pleasure that I write to inform you that Obafemi Awolowo University, your Alma mater has approved that a Distinguished Great Ife Alumnus Award be conferred on you as part of the activities marking the 60th Anniversary of our beloved citadel of learning”.
Ogunmodede said the well-deserved Award of Excellence was to show the university’s appreciation for 60 very passionate, supportive and dedicated Great Ife Ambassadors who have contributed over the past 60 years to the development of the institution.
Ojudu, co-author of ‘Politics That Works,’ was admitted to the University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where he studied English.
While on the campus, the veteran journalist took an interest in journalism and joined the Association of Campus Journalists, reporting for a campus journal, COBRA.
The seasoned politician has sacrificed dearly to his profession through which he was detained several times but remained undaunted in his commitment to end military rule in Nigeria using media practice as weapon.
The high point of this was his nine month incarceration in solitary confinement at the dreaded cell of the then State Security Service (SSS) Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Ojudu has since joined politics and he once represented Ekiti Central Senatorial District at the Upper Legislative Chamber on the platform of now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011 and 2015 where he served as the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Defence.
He is currently the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters.
