The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Olatunji Disu, as the new Commissioner of Police for Rivers Command, reports thegazellenews.com.
According to investigation, Disu was appointed to ensure robust policing of the state: strengthening its security, tackling violent crimes, and improving policing operations across the State.
Disu’s appointment did not come as a surprise to many as he had always exhibited stringent policing strategies and a State as complex as Rivers is deserving of a strategic mindset such as his.
After the release of the signal on Wednesday, 8 November, 2023, Kayode Egebetokun charged the CP to demonstrate his known technical and tactical prowess in the policing of Rivers State.
Before now, Disu was the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, Kayode Egbetokun; CP Federal Investigation Bureau; the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Deputy Commissioner of Police, IRT; and Commander Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State.
He has also served as DPO in several police formations including Elimbu and Elelenwo in Rivers State. He was the Head of SARS and Anti-kidnapping Unit, Rivers State. CP Disu was also appointed to lead the Nigeria Police Contingent to the African Union (AU) Peace Keeping Mission in Dafur, Sudan.
CP Disu holds a degree in English Education from Lagos State University (LASU), two Master’s degrees: one in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State, and another in Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University.
