Barcelona of Spain Female Football Team forward, Asisat Oshoala has been named the 2023 Female African Footballer of the Year, reports thegazellenews.com
Oshoala defeated her closest rival, South Africa’s Thembi Kagtlana to win the award for a record extending sixth time.
She was presented with the award on Monday, 11 December, 2023, in Marakech, Morocco.
A serial record setter, Oshoala extended her record of being the first footballer, either make or female to win the African Footballer of the Year for the sixth time.
After injury prevented her from performing well at the 2023 WAFCON in Morocco where Nigeria finished 4th, Oshoala had a stellar 2023, leading the Super Falcons to the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand where the Nigerian team emerged as the first African to emerge undefeated in regulation time. By scoring the third goal against Australia, Oshoala became the first African female Footballer to score in three consecutive World Cup.
Prior to that, she had contributed immensely to Barcelona winning the Female UEFA Champions League and the league crown.
