Today, Monday, 17 April, 2023 is the birthday of the quintessential grassroots politician, Alhaji Mutiu Are.
Encomiums, praises and eulogies have come the way of the man who has doggedly promotes the ideals of the Progressives in general and Tinubuism in particular.
Are is a known disciple and follower of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and even during the darkest days of political intimidation and threats especially during the Oluesgun Obasanjo years, Mutiu Are was one of those who never wavered in his belief, loyalty and commitment to the Tinubu Political School of Thought.
Over the years, Are has proved to be a committed and loyal party man and unlike most politicians, he’s not the one who will always seek reward of office appointments for his service to the party, the group and the Progressives in general. He thus earned for himself the title: Mr Reliable!
Yet, like a goldfish that has no hiding place, Are’s stars have continued to shine and the leadership of the party and the group have never failed to recognize his loyalty and commitment. His zeal for hard work, the determination to get positive results, the perseverance to face any difficulty and his trouble-shooting ability to resolve crises in the group and party have always stand him out.
A man of peace who always seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts, Mutiu Are’s name will always come up for any peace mission in the party and the group.
Over the years, he has been saddled with critical assignments and he has always excel.
Are, up till the time of writing this report, is the Secretary of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision making body in the state and he has been delivering creditably on his assignment.
At the national level, President Muhammadu Buhari named him the Lagos State Chairman of the 774,000 post-Covid-19 Job Project put in place by the Federal Government to cushion the effect of Covid-19 on Nigerians. Are delivered creditably.
As a committed member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Are has always sponsored party members to events outside Lagos, one of which was the special National Convention of the party in late 2021.
An avowed Tinubuist, Are made his full commitment to the struggle that eventually culminated in Asiwaju becoming the President-elect. He followed the former Lagos Governor throughout his pre-primary consultations throughout the 36 states of the federation. He was part of the primary election campaign and during the primary election proper, he was sleepless for 48 hours at the Eagle Square ensuring that everything went well and Tinubu eventually triumphs.
It is to his credit that he was named the Director of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC) Director of Contact and Mobilzation for the South West region. And did he delivered? The results of the elections in the south west are enough confirmation of the ability of the ever-reliable Mutiu Are.
As he celebrates his birthday today, Mutiu Are will look back and can express gratitude to Almighty Allah for what he has achieved through Him. But for us, we will say happy birthday to one we can conveniently called Mr Reliable!
