Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala mad history on Thursday, 27 July, 2023 as the Super Falcons of Nigeria defeated co-hosts of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup, Australia 3-2, reports thegazellenews.com.
Oshoala scored the third goal which turned out to be the winning goal, thus, becoming the first Nigerian footballer, male or female, to score in three different World Cup tournaments.
The Nigerian team came from behind to win having conceded the first goal to the Australians in 45th minute of the match.
Uchenna Kanu equalized in the fifth minute of first half added time. Osinachi Ohale scored the second goal in the 62nd minute while substitute Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala scored the third goal.
The Australians got the second goal in the 90th but proved to be too little too late.
The Falcons are now on four points just like Canada who beat Ireland in their second match on Wednesday, 26 July, 2023.
With the win, the Nigerian women are on the verge of making it to the second round of the competition.
Their next encounter will be again Ireland who are already out of the competition after suffering two losses.
