The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command has disclosed that a total of 1,520 personnel have been deployed statewide for covert and overt operations during the Easter celebrations.
This was made known by the Osun NSCDC Commandant, Michael Adaralewa through a statement issued by Kehinde Adeleke, the command spokesperson on Wednesday, 27 March, 2024 in Osogbo, the state capital
Adaralewa also revealed that the team is composed of State Command tactical teams such as the Counter Terrorism Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Special Armed Squad, Female Armed Squad, Disaster Management Unit and Chemical, Biological, Radiological Nuclear and Explosive Unit.
He also added that in addition to providing security for citizens and residents of the state the deployed teams would also protect critical national assets in the state.
He stated further that he has given a marching order to Area Commanders and Divisional Officers in all local governments and area commands across the state to deploy effective operational teams for constant patrol of every nook and cranny of the state to ensure criminally minded people do not have a hiding place to operate before, during and after this year’s Easter celebration.
“Officers shall be deployed to public places, worship centres, recreation centres, shopping malls, identified criminal’s hideouts and would discharge their duties with respect to fundamental human rights,” Commandant Adaralewa said.
The State Commandant who enjoined the personnel to work in synergy with other sister agencies for a hitch-free celebration said security of people is very sacrosanct and therefore, the personnel of the Corps must be on their toes to protect the lives and property of the citizens at all times.
He urged members of the public to celebrate within the confines of the law, be watchful, imbibe the culture of moderation during this period and report suspicious movements and persons to the nearest security agency for immediate action.
“Christian faithful should practice all the good teachings that the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ has taught them.
“Those who intend to travel for the celebration should avoid over-speeding and night travels,” the NSCDC Commandant said.
