Was-Lat Schools Old Students’ Association, (WSOSA), on Sunday, 6 August, 2023 gathered to celebrate their teacher, administrator, author, mentor and proprietor of the school they acquired early knowledge, Dr. Wasiu O. Adumadeyein on the occasion of his 30th anniversary in the teaching profession and launching of his book on Cybercrime.
The event held at Onikan Youth Center had students, teachers, alumni and guests turned up in large numbers mostly dressed in native attires. It also witnessed various performances by the students and showing a documentary on the teaching profession.
Describing Dr. Adumadeyein as a nation builder, the old students stressed the need for alumni associations to reward excellence and diligence.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Planning Committee of the association, Mr. Taoheed Olaope said, “WSOSA provided an opportunity to celebrate 30 years of teaching profession of our teacher, father and mentor, Dr. Wasiu O. Adumadeyein, the proprietor of Was-Lat Schools, Lagos.”
The celebrant also launched a book to mark his 30 years in teaching in both public and private sectors titled ‘Cybercrime (Yahoo-Yahoo) Among Teenagers in Nigeria’ at the event.
The book reviewer and former student of Was-Lat Schools, Dr. Olumide Olugbemi-Gabriel, of the Department of Language and Literary Studies, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, stated that the book addressed the pertinent issues in the advert of the fabric of Nigerian youth culture of internet digital space.
Speaking at the event, the National President, National Association of Private School Proprietors, Chief Yomi Otubale, said, “we are here to identify, celebrate and witness 30 years of impactful and selfless service to humanity by a dedicated, teacher, administrator and author.
“This is man is worthy of celebration, especially in the country’s Education Sector with particular reference to the private sub-sector because people like him can only know better tomorrow.
“His latest book on Cybercrime is also worthy of note as it touches on moral and values that is the foundation of upbringing of any child. I encourage parents to get the book, read and draw lessons to cater for their children not to fall into cyber crime.
“We can only wish him more fruitful years in the service of his fatherland.”
Mr. M. T. Amusa, President NAPPS, Lagos state chapter and Chairman, CEO OMAR Group of Schools, said, “we are here to celebrate our man, boss, and a visionary leader that is marking 30th anniversary of being a teacher and proprietor of a private school. A man who has impacted and touched so many lives positively.
“It’s a thing of joy that students he had taught and mentored in both public and private schools decided to organise and celebrate him when he is still alive, kudos to them. Majority of them today are successful professionals in all fields of endeavors. They’ve achieved success in various fields such as: Medicine, Accounting, Academic, Entertainment and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
According to Mr. Micheal O. Richard , Chairman, Lagos Island NAPPS and Proprietor, Greats Private Schools, “It is a fantastic thing to be here to honour someone who has dedicated himself to the teaching profession. It’s also heart-warming to lots of children he had positively impacted on, doing great things in the society. it is a thing of joy and happiness for everyone of us, the celebrant inclusive.
“He also launched a book on Cybercrime. This is another credit to him aiming to build moral of the children to be good citizens”.
The celebrant, Dr. Wasiu O. Adumadeyein expressed appreciation and gratitude to WSOSA for organising the special events to mark his 30th anniversary in the teaching industry.
