The President General of Anwar-ul-Islam College Agege Old Students’ Association (ACAOSA), Alhaji Lawal Pedro, has hailed the founding fathers of the school for establishing a citadel of knowledge that has impacted positively on all aspects of human endeavour in the country.
Pedro, former Solicitor General of Lagos State, disclosed this on Wednesday, 5 April, 2023, during a press conference to disclose the activities marking the 75th Founder’s Day of the college, which is the first Muslim Secondary School in West Africa.
“Alhamudulilahi robil alamin, we’ve come a long way and if we look at the array of personalities produced by this school who have impacted positively on all human endeavours in the country, then we must commend the vision of the founding in establishing this citadel of knowledge,” he said.
Pedro paid glowing tributes to the pioneering efforts of Pa Saka Tinubu, Alhaji Jubril Martin, Alhaji B D Oshodi, Alhaji N B Kenku, Alhaji B A Fanimokun, Alhaji A S E Agbabiaka, Alhaji Issa Williams, Chief Imam Ashafa Tijani, Chief Imam Y P O Shodeinde, Imam Ismail, Pa Pereira, Alhaji M A Animashaun and Alhaji R A Allison.
According to him, the pioneering efforts of the founding fathers have have birthed a school all can be proud of with its products flying flag of the school high anywhere they find themselves.
Among distinguished products of the school are: late Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Jelili Omotola; Justice (retd) Ishola Olorunnimbe; former Nigerian Ambassador to Argentina, Empire Kanu; first female Rector of a polytechnic in Nigeria, Dr (Mrs) Oyindamola Anjorin; former Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana and ex-Minister of state for Defence, Senator Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro; another former envoy and Minister, Late Ademola Seriki; another former Minister, Chief Dapo Sarumi; educationist Sheikh Mansur Williams; former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Otunba Femi Pedro; Major General (retd) Tajudeen Olanrewaju; ex-International football stars: Rahman Alarape, Tunde Disu, Waheed Akanni, Muyiwa Oshode among others; ex-Clerks of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Taiwo Olatunji and Alhaji Abdul Azeez Sanni; Lawal Pedro himself; late Justice Fatai Adeyinka; Late Justice Sikiru Adagun; Late Justice Y O Adio among many others numerous to mention.
Among the younger generation are: Honourable Oluyinka Ogundimu of the Lagos State House of Assembly; Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Saheed Olayinka Egbeyemi; a banking guru, Rafiu Muhammad; Rafiu Jempeji of the British Broadcasting Corporation World Service and Deputy Commissioner of Police Lateef Ahmed as well as the Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission (LAHASCOM), Otunba Richard Akin Osungboye among others.
In the media: veteran broadcasters, Yinka Aromasodun and Taiwo Junaid of AIT and LTV respectively, Abiodun Durojaiye, publisher of Lagos Times, a Lagos based online newspaper and Musbau Rasak, publisher of thegazellenews.com are all products of the illustrious school.
According to Alhaji Rahman Alarape Snr, Chairman of the Planning Committee for the event, activities marking the 75th Founder’s Day celebration kicked off on Wednesday, 5 April, 2023, with a press conference and story telling. On Friday, 7 July, 2023, there will be a special jumat service to mark the day, a career talk for students and a football match while the grand finale of the event takes place on 28 October, 2023.
