The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday June 16, 2021 commended the efforts of the National Pension Commission in sensitizing officials of government agencies on the contributory pension scheme. The Head of the Gombe Zonal Office, Babashani Umar Sanda who made the remark while opening a one-day sensitization lecture for staff of the Commission in Gombe, said the measure will help in holding accountable, those involved in pensions management and checking corruption in the sector.
“The need for this lecture cannot be over-emphasized considering the importance of pension for government workers especially as they look forward to having something at the end of their efforts. It is also quite imperative in using such to acquire the needed knowledge to monitor and hold those involved accountable in case of fraud,” he stated.
Babashani thanked the PENCOM Zonal Head, Mr. Mamoud M. Zillang and his team for their timely visit, and urged participant to be attentive and ask relevant questions.
Responding, the PENCOM Zonal Head said they were at EFCC to sensitize the staff about the pension industry generally, with emphasis on the contributory pension scheme.
“We are here to carry out one of the mandates of the commission, that is sensitizing employees and organizations about the contributive pension scheme because we have noticed that there is a very serious low level of awareness on the scheme.
We believe that the sensitization would equip staff to understand better what they are involved in and how best to avail themselves of the scheme, how it works and how to ask or report any noticeable infractions to our office or the administrators,” he said.
The sensitization is part of the efforts of the Gombe Zonal office in collaborating with state and federal agencies in combating corruption in the zone.
